As the holiday season approaches, the time has come to start thinking about our shopping lists. No matter how much planning we try to do, there always seems to be a mad rush right at the last minute. Despite the best intentions, holiday parties, meals, and decorating can snowball quickly and leave us little to no time to tackle a growing list of gifts. Oftentimes, the rush of the holiday season can result in hurried trips to a department store. Or, we can stay up late trying to find hot items online. Unfortunately, this can result in gifts that lack personality, and that’s what giving gifts is all about. This holiday season, consider getting ahead of the rush and shop local.

When it comes to holiday gift-giving – there are many reasons you should choose to shop local. From simple benefits like convenience to more impactful reasons like the environment and local economy – shopping locally really does help the world around you. Supporting independent businesses and neighborhood charities can directly impact community members who have been negatively affected by the pandemic. Many small shops have struggled to stay afloat during the past year. Holiday shopping is the perfect way to support these businesses and spoil your loved ones. Shopping locally allows us to invest in the community, helps create demand for local jobs, gives us quality products through sustainable goods, and produces great deals for budgets of all kinds.

If you want to get ahead of the holiday rush and are looking for thoughtful, wonderful, and unique gifts this season – here are some great options in Carlsbad Village that check all the boxes:

Village Rock Shop

The world of crystals has been gaining traction in popular culture. This magical world of gemstones and their healing powers is rooted in local artisans and artists. And, the Village Rock Shop in Carlsbad Village has the highest quality raw, faceted, polished gemstones and customizable gift sets around.

The Village Rock Shop aims to offer the finest selection of crystals and gemstones from around the world at affordable prices. Their stones include healing crystals that are sourced from small mines. Each crystal has its own healing and balancing powers, and they have a range of options – everything from crystal jewelry to spheres, towers, geodes, and wands. There are also dreamcatchers with gemstones, homemade natural candles, aromatherapy sprays and smudging kits.

Stop in to find a custom gem that will surprise and delight anyone on your holiday shopping list.

Rebel Villa

One of the newer locally owned boutiques in Carlsbad Village is Rebel Villa. Owners Sonnet and Mindy set out to provide quality bohemian-inspired decor at affordable prices. Their storefront is a beautiful display of macrame, plants, and upscale accessories. The boutique is fueled by a mission to support female artisans and their products are bold and welcoming.

From plant hangers, metal wall hangings, and art prints to home textiles and indoor plants, this boutique is a one-stop-shop for wellness and living. Drop in for a gift for your favorite bohemian friend or tackle a full room renovation with home accents, wall decor, candles, and textiles.

75 Degrees and Fuzzy

If you’re traveling to Southern California, there’s no doubt that you’ve likely heard the term ‘75 and sunny’. Our Mediterranean climate keeps us hovering right around 75 degrees, and the sun is out all year. 75 Degrees and Fuzzy is a fun play on this term and an even better clothing boutique.

The co-founder of 75 Degrees and Fuzzy grew up loving the art of dress-up and performance. Layna Hathaway has always adored fashion and has been able to apply this adoration to her store’s inventory. Each piece in the boutique is handpicked by Layna and her mom and is sourced from the Los Angeles Fashion District as well as vendors from the show MAGIC. The clothes at 75 Degrees and Fuzzy are for real women who are ‘never too old to dress up’. Pieces are modern, fashionable, and classic. Whether you need the basics or a new bodysuit and mini dress, 75 Degrees and Fuzzy has you covered.

Coolest Shoes in California

Sometimes, a name says it all. And let’s be honest – if you’re looking for new shoes, why wouldn’t you want to get a pair that is the ‘coolest’ in California?

Shop Local this Season in Carlsbad Village

At Coolest Shoes in California, owners have stocked up on everything from lightweight running shoes to pillow-soft sandals. You can grab a new set of flip-flops to take to the beach or try on a new pair of running shoes for your next workout. They have comfort and style all wrapped up in a trendy local boutique. In 2020, we took a break from some of our favorite events. Indoor concerts, movies, and social gatherings were all off the table. Even large outdoor events were hit by the effects of the pandemic. Virtual events took their place with new ways to get big groups of people together to celebrate. Still, virtual events couldn’t take the place of our favorite gatherings. Ticketmaster offered rainchecks for high-profile gigs but many events on the local scene had to be canceled. In Carlsbad, summertime is a hotbed for embracing the open air and gathering community. Our love of the arts and music plays a big role in our community and for that reason, one of our favorite summertime events is the Carlsbad Music Festival. Music is an art form that is a unique expression of personality, creativity, and talent. It can elevate your mood, reduce stress, improve memory, and even increase cognition. And, live music does all of that and more. Live music gives listeners a way to share an experience and feel inspired.

For 16 years leading up to the pandemic, the Carlsbad Music Festival served the community with an event that the Los Angeles Times called ‘magnificently enlightening’. The San Diego Union-Tribune has called it ‘phenomenal’. Unfortunately, the event was canceled last year due to the pandemic. But, there is good news – the Festival is back this month and for the first time, it will be completely outdoors!

This year, the 17th annual Music Festival will be delivering live music from artists across the world. The Carlsbad Music Festival is a 501c(3) that was created to establish Carlsbad as a cultural center in Southern California. In the pursuit to find and recruit musicians who create compelling music for a diverse set of audiences, the Carlsbad Music Festival has quickly become a world-class gathering of performances that can’t be found anywhere else. Local music defines the culture of a community and the Carlsbad Music Festival is constantly on the lookout for new and emerging talent. It has grown to be one of the largest and most diverse gatherings of avant-garde musicians in the state. We couldn’t be happier that it will be live and in-person August 27th-29th.

This year’s event is being advertised as ‘adventurous music by the beach. The Festival will be taking all the precautions to keep visitors safe while providing best-in-class entertainment. You can purchase a General Admission 3-day pass for the low price of $49, or one-day passes starting at just $18. Performances will take place in multiple outdoor venues throughout the Village of Carlsbad and the hub will be located on the lawn at St. Michael’s by-the-Sea. There will be plenty of room to spread out as well as a playground for kids with shaded seating. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and beach chairs, as well as sunscreen and hats. Small dogs are allowed and visitors can bring outside food and non-alcoholic beverages. The outdoor Food Court and Beer Garden will provide all sorts of food and beverages for purchase and proceeds from bottled water sales will go directly back to the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that hosts the event.

On the stage, artists will range from acoustic to eclectic and everything in between. There will be indie music, jazz, strings, and brass. The Mattson 2, Amadou Fall, Shane Hall, and Art of Elan are just a few of the artists making appearances.

Throughout the past year, music has become a life force for many of us. We’ve gained a new appreciation for what it can bring to our lives, and now that the end of summer is near, it’s time to get outside and enjoy music in real life. Parking will be limited, so consider using alternate forms of transportation or carpooling. Tickets can be purchased here in advance.

Grab a ticket and tune in to the 17th Annual Carlsbad Music Festival – you’ll be glad you did.

When you hear the term ‘village’, what comes to mind? For many, the idea of a village includes a quaint idyllic cluster of stores and restaurants. Or, it’s a historic re-creation of cozy architecture and small storefronts. Quite literally, a village is a clustered human settlement or community. One that is smaller than a town but larger than a few small buildings. Historically, villages could also be a location where communal societies gathered. That could mean a community built with a church at its center or a group of individuals creating neighborhoods adjacent to the factories where they worked. Oftentimes, villages were thought of as rural locations – far from the hustle and bustle of the city. Now, there are urban villages that take place in the heart of urban neighborhoods. In the U.S., incorporated villages refer to a very select designation of governance, outweighed by the powers granted to cities but larger than undesignated areas. In Carlsbad, our Village doesn’t quite fit into the category of an incorporated entity but it still holds the heartbeat of the city and is one of the central places to see when you visit. The Carlsbad Village is the preeminent downtown of North County. It is a centerpiece of dining, shopping, and exploration graced by the beaches that frame its streets. Every year, the Carlsbad Village hosts locals and visitors alike for a weekend of activity, fun, and community at the Village Faire. While the event was postponed last year due the pandemic, the Carlsbad Village Faire is back this year and is right around the corner.

Over 40 Years Worth of Reasons to Celebrate at the Village Faire This Year

For over 39 years, downtown Carlsbad Village has hosted this event in May and November. Typically, the street fair will host hundreds of vendors – selling everything from clothes and art to plants and antiques. The expansive food court is transformed into a market of booths featuring cuisine from all over the world. With support from the Rotary Club of Carlsbad – the Village Faire has always been a celebratory event with beer gardens and wine stops for adults and plenty of activities for kids.

This year, the celebration is back in action. With vaccinations on the rise and summertime giving people the ability to get outside, the event is back on track. Normally in May, this year’s postponed event will be a bit warmer than usual. For one day only on July 25, 2021 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. – the largest street fair in Southern California will be opening its doors for everything from arts and crafts to food, drink and more. Vendors from all different cultures will be running booths with items from around the world. There will be a children’s play area with space to run around and games to keep everyone entertained. Slides, bounce houses, and a carnival are all in store – the perfect opportunity to burn off all of the sweets from the international food center.

And, The Kiwanis Club of Carlsbad will continue its more than 25-year tradition of hosting a pancake breakfast. The tasty breakfast includes all of the favorites – pancakes, coffee, sausage,  and juice will be served from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.

This year, the crowds will be slightly smaller than normal. Attendance will be capped at 4,000 attendees with approximately 50 food booths. There will be roving performers and local music throughout.

Grand Avenue from Carlsbad Boulevard to Jefferson Street, and all of the cross streets in between, will be closed for the event. Shuttles will run to and from the fair in order to reduce congestion and give guests more space to park.

Embrace Southern California’s favorite Village by the Sea and support your community at this year’s Carlsbad Village Faire.

Art and culture go hand-in-hand when shaping a community. Artistic expression is human expression, and the use of imagery, storytelling, and dance are all parts of the human experience that are important to the backbone of a community. The City of Carlsbad has always been invested in artistic expression and has served as a supportive force behind the artistic threads that bind the community together. The arts stimulate childhood brain development, and studies have shown that creativity breeds innovation. This month, appreciation of the arts is taking center stage in Carlsbad. The ArtWalk team is working together with local artists to host the 2nd Annual ArtWalk Carlsbad on Armada Drive, above the Flower Fields on Palomar Airport Road.

ArtWalk Carlsbad (2)

A Continuing Celebration of Art in Carlsbad

The Mission Federal Artwalk and Artwalk Liberty Station have celebrated visual and performing arts in San Diego for over 35 years. In 2018, Carlsbad hosted the first ArtWalk festival in North County. The 2018 kickoff festival featured over 200 artists, showcasing every medium of art imaginable. The immersive art experience was such a success that it is coming back for another year of live music, art, food, beverages, and more.

On September 21st and 22nd, Carlsbad Village and Amarda Drive will be home to hundreds of local artists. Guests will have the rare opportunity to purchase pieces that are completely unique to Carlsbad’s own. Price points will vary and artists will be able to highlight completed pieces and perform live demonstrations. There will be food vendors and a wine and beer garden so that guests can eat and drink while browsing the work. All artists must apply for a space at the festival, and only half of applicants will get accepted. The selection process includes a mixed criteria to ensure that the featured artists have a wide range of creativity, technique, and use of materials.

Interactive Events and Musical Performances

The two-day festival is family friendly. There will be a KidsWalk devoted entirely to hands-on activities for little ones who want to explore artistic expression. ArtReach San Diego will be hosting visual art education workshops, Hero City Arts & Crafts will be connecting pop culture and the arts at their Super Hero mask station, and Nature Buddies will be nurturing the parent/child bond with an activity for guests to create nature faces.

The headlining music artist at the festival will be A.J. Croce. He will be performing on Sunday afternoon and has been praised by some of music’s most esteemed artists like Willie Nelson. His New Orleans influences inspire a multi-instrumentalist mix of piano, vocals, and performance art.

Live chalk art an attraction at Artwalk Carlsbad 2019

Live Chalk Art

In addition to the vast selection of art, live music, food, and drinks, the 2019 ArtWalk Carlsbad will also be bringing back the popular Chalk Art that debuted at last year’s festival. The asphalt art will take place before guests’ eyes during the two day festival. Talented street painters will be grabbing from the ‘Maddonari’ artists in ancient Italy who created street art in front of churches. Expert artists will receive a $200 stipend for their work. Schools and youth groups are also encouraged to participate. Participating groups will get an assortment of chalk provided by Artist & Craftsman Supply. Chalk squares are all 8 feet by 6 feet. The road where the Chalk Art will take place will be transformed from a hard black surface to a winding and vibrant expanse of expression.

Grab your advance ticket for two days of art and fun – tickets include access to the festival, entry to the Museum of Making Music, and admission to A.J. Croce’s show.

How to Find Your Stride in Carlsbad

Cardio and strength training are two key ways to get in shape and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Running is one of the best cardio exercises that can not only improve your physiological health but can also relieve stress, increase productivity, and boost stimulants that trigger feelings of pleasure and reward. The effects of just 10 to 20 minutes of running each day can last much longer than the time spent outside or in the gym. After a run, calories continue to burn for up to 14 hours after activity has stopped. The production of endorphins and endocannabinoids during a run induces feelings of euphoria and continues to inspire these feelings of confidence and elation after your workout is done. Running has also been shown to regulate blood pressure, maintain stronger joints, and improve insulin sensitivity. If you are new to running or want to tap into that runner’s high that joggers brag about, here are some meetups for runners, places to run, and upcoming races in Carlsbad that you won’t want to miss.

The San Diego North County Running Meetup

One of the greatest things about running is that everyone runs at a different pace. There is not one standard distance or stride that anyone has to meet when getting out for a jog. The San Diego North County Running Meetup is the perfect spot for runners that want to find other local runners with similar goals. Whether its running for fun or for exercise, the meetup gives members the opportunity to find a group that wants the same. The meetup participates in various long and short distance runs, with track workouts and trail runs on the schedule every week. Recent runs have included a Ladies Run Along Carlsbad Coast. Join the meetup today to stay up-to-date on runs happening near you.

Run North County

Run North County is another great resource for runners in Carlsbad. The group is a community forum for runners and walkers of all kinds. Weekly runs, volunteer opportunities, and recommended gear are all featured on their website. The group hosts a Sunday morning Coastal Run along the Carlsbad Coast. Runners can socialize and have fun while jogging or walking alongside the Pacific Ocean. The group leaves from Magee Park at 7:30 a.m. each Sunday.

Batiquitos Lagoon and Carlsbad Boulevard

The Batiquitos Lagoon Trail is a 3.1 mile out and back trail that has views, flowers, and wildlife. Running along the lagoon is a relaxing and scenic option that far surpasses the lull and dread of a treadmill. Similarly, Carlsbad’s coastline has a beach walk that is a flat terrain perfect for runners. You can start your jog at the Carlsbad Village. From Pine Street and Carlsbad Boulevard, the beach walk extends down to Tamarack or Cannon Road for a good 3 mile trek.

Tip Top Run and Leprechaun Bash

If you want to put your skills to the test or like the motivation of a race to pick up your pace, the Tip Top Run and Leprechaun Bash is right around the corner. On Saturday, March 16 there will be both a 5k run/walk and a 10k run/walk at the Agua Hedionda Discovery Center. Proceeds from the race will go towards maintenance and awareness of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon. After the race, runners can take part in the Leprechaun Bash with live music, games, and food. Register today to reserve your spot at the starting line.

Winding down from the spending spree of the holidays can an exercise in will power. In the months between gift giving and tax refunds, it is often necessary to start budgeting for the year. After all of the gift cards have been spent and family is no longer right around the corner to help plan and facilitate events, figuring out how to settle back into the routines of healthy spending is a necessary transition into the New Year. With the kids back at school and work swinging back into action, there is less time to keep up to date on what fun events are going on in and around the community. If you’re on the lookout for activities that will get you out of the house and won’t break the budget in the New Year, here are three of the best free activities that Carlsbad has to offer.

The Miniature Engineering Craftsmanship Museum

Just like the name implies, the Miniature Engineering Craftsmanship Museum is a treasure trove for anyone who is interested in the nuts and bolts of how things are made. The museum is a 501(c)(3) funded by the Joe Martin Foundation. There are hundreds of metalworking and craftsmanship projects on display. Most of the work is miniature in size, making the crafts an extraordinary display of precision and art. In addition to finished products, the museum also has some of the world’s best small machine tools laid out to show how miniature maneuvers are made possible for the engineers working with them. Most of the items in the museum have been donated by expert craftsman, making each of the exhibits an authentic representation of the craft that they feature. Rare gems like world renowned clockmaker William R. Smith’s gold medal winning Strutt epicyclic train clock set the museum apart as one of Carlsbad’s most unique spots for culture and community. The museum is open Tues-Sat and is free to the public. Stop by today to check out the Birk Petersen Collection, featuring 150 engines, toys, guns, clocks and more.

3 Fun Places in Carlsbad that Don’t Cost a Dime

The Batiquitos Lagoon

The Batiquitos Lagoon is one of Carlsbad’s most well-known natural wonders. It is a coastal wetland that is one of the few of its kind left in California and the greater United States. The lagoon is managed as an ecological wildlife preserve, featuring over three miles of gently sloped hiking trails. The Nature Center is open daily and offers guests a firsthand look into the plants, animals, and habitats located within. The lagoon is perfect for individual and group hikes and hosts a variety of special events throughout the year. There is a kid’s camp in the summer and lagoon cleanup events for kayakers. Entrance to the lagoon and surrounding hiking trails is free and visiting the lagoon is a truly authentic look at the beauty of Carlsbad’s landscape.

3 Fun Places in Carlsbad that Don’t Cost a Dime

Leo Carrillo Ranch House

As one of only a few working ranches in San Diego and North County, the Leo Carrillo Ranch is a beautifully manicured homestead with over 27-acres of expansive canyon peaks and valleys. The historic ranch was once home to Hollywood’s finest. Leo Carrillo was both an actor and preservationist and his passion for preserving beauty runs throughout the ranch today. From historic adobe buildings to fields blooming with flowers, windmills, and free roaming wildlife, the ranch has more than enough to keep energetic kids occupied for hours on end. The historic elements of the ranch make it stand out as an educational and beautiful spot to spend the day. There is a blacksmith and foundry shop, working tractors and cattle chute that all give nod to Leo’s vision for the ranch and teach young minds about the inner workings within. The grounds are littered with Carlsbad’s native flora fauna. Free guided walking tours are available on Saturday and Sundays for guests who would like to explore the insides of the buildings. Pack up the kids and some comfortable walking shoes and explore one of Carlsbad’s most historically rich landmarks without breaking the bank.

Fall and spring are two of the most treasured seasons of the year. Each holds an in-between period of moderate weather and anticipation of either summer or winter. During these seasons, nature offers up bright colors of waxing and waning in preparation for what is to come. For this reason and many more, wedding venues get booked and outdoor activities fill the calendar. Fall in particular provides a breath of fresh air with the opportunity to embrace the coziness that comes with colder weather. Warm drinks, layered clothing, and hearty food are fall favorites that encourage us to settle in and get ready for the upcoming holidays. Fall in Carlsbad is an especially charming time of year. There are plenty of opportunities to get outside and enjoy the crisp air and sun while helping the community. Here is a list of some of the best fall activities to take part in this year:

Even though we don’t experience the same changes here in Southern California, fall is still a perfect time to get outside and enjoy the coastline. Keeping our landscape beautiful takes time and effort. Luckily, there are a few great opportunities to get outside while giving back in Carlsbad this fall. Every second Saturday, Preserve Calavera hosts cleanup events at the Village H North Trail. If you are a water lover, the Batiquitos Lagoon Annual Kayak Cleanup Event takes place at the end of this month. Traditions can mold a neighborhood and provide valuable things to look forward to as each new year approaches. Carlsbad is a city full of tradition and history, making it a picturesque getaway that is rich with traditions formed by its community. The Carlsbad Santa Fe Depot, Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park, and Frazier’s Well are three examples of historic landmarks in the city that are actively preserving cultural values from the Pre-Columbian period to the Spanish and Mexican Period, Early American Period, and beyond. A large portion of Carlsbad’s local traditions and heritage can be seen through the lens of arts and history represented throughout. Creativity builds connections within the community and public art transforms the aesthetic of public places. This month, Carlsbad residents and visitors can take part in the formation of a new artistic tradition by attending the fourth installation of the Art Rhythm & Wine Festival, hosted by The Forum Carlsbad. While there are plenty of fall festivities to take part in as Halloween approaches, the Art Rhythm & Wine Festival is a fun and inspiring community event that you won’t want to miss.

The festival will be on October 20th and 21st at The Forum Carlsbad. The two-day event will feature artwork from over 50 artists. The artwork will be original and come sourced from all over the western United States. A variety of art styles will be represented. Everything from contemporary pieces to more traditional Southwest art will be on display. Craftsmen and women will be utilizing an array of media to create everything from dishware to jewelry for purchase. Acrylic, photography, mixed media, and watercolors will fill the booths for guests to enjoy.

In addition to visual art, music and culinary crafts will be on hand as well. A wine garden will allow guests to try quality local and national tastings as well as the opportunity to purchase bottles for home. Wine sample cards will be available for $10 and will allow guests five 1 oz. pours. Wine can also be purchased in 4 oz. quantities for $5 each. Food artisans will be showcasing their work and providing tasty pairings for the wine. Live music will be on rotation for the duration of the festival, offering a playful backdrop for the art that is on display.

The festival will be sponsored by Pacific Ridge Schools and Ranch & Coast Magazine. The Art Forum is also partnering with two 501cs non-profit organizations to host a silent auction during the festival. Each non-profit, the Lux Art Institute and North County Arts Network, will have booths at the event to provide information on their missions while supporting the cause of spreading the arts throughout the community.

The month of September starts off with a holiday weekend to bid farewell to summer and slowly ushers in hints of fall as the month progresses. With school well under way and new routines beginning to take form, September allows us to enjoy a few last-minute pool parties while building anticipation for trick-or-treating and the winter holidays that follow. If you are stuck between the love of hamburgers on the grill and the allure of pumpkin spice lattes on your way to work, Carlsbad has a mixture of events lined up this month to help ease the transition into fall.

ArtWalk Carlsbad

For the first time this year, ArtWalk Carlsbad is hosting a two-day event that will showcase over 200 artists and their work. The event is scheduled for September 22nd and 23rd and is a sister event to two other ArtWalk events located in Little Italy and Liberty Station. This year will mark the first year that Carlsbad has hosted the ArtWalk, and the fine arts community is excited to help bridge creative comradeship throughout San Diego county. The experience will feature an immersive opportunity to engage and interact with the artwork while being surrounded by the ambience of the Flower Fields and the ocean. There will be live music, food trucks, and a wine and beer garden so that guests can stay refreshed while perusing the wide variety of fine art pieces. The event will gather 50 chalk artists to create showpieces in real time. The asphalt art will be a unique centerpiece for the Carlsbad event each year. Grab your chance to own a piece of original art and get your tickets today.

Coastal Cleanup Day

The coastline is one of Carlsbad’s most prized landmarks and keeping it clean is the responsibility of both residents and visitors alike. This month, the city of Carlsbad is joining I Love A Clean San Diego (ILACSD) for their Coastal Cleanup Day. Thousands of volunteers will gather to cleanup multiple coastal and inland locations throughout the county. The event is touted as the county’s largest volunteer cleanup event of the year and Carlsbad will benefit from volunteer efforts on both the coastline and in the village. If you’re looking to do good while being outdoors, go online and sign up to help beautify the city. All ages and abilities are welcome to participate, and supplies will be provided. Sign up here.

Early Bird Tickets to The Taste of Carlsbad

The ‘Taste of’ events are some of San Diego’s best opportunities to explore a new neighborhood while trying out all of the different restaurants within. Starting this month, guests can reserve their place in next month’s event by purchasing tickets online. For $30, guests will have access to over 30 restaurants and 10 different breweries and wineries. Each vendor features a ‘taste’ from their menu. The event allows ticket holders to visit each of the featured restaurants and bars at their own pace with a map of vendors to guide participants throughout the city. Be sure to reserve your tickets now and follow Carlsbad Village online to receive updates about the event from now through October.

For parents of young children, summertime can mean creative thinking when it comes to childcare. With the school year over, working parents have to find ways to keep kids entertained and safe while finding time to bask in the sun. This summer, The City of Carlsbad has a comprehensive list of classes and camps that will ensure that children are cared for and having fun during the break from school.

Summer-Camp-2018

It’s important to keep brain activity thriving throughout the summer months. Luckily, the City of Carlsbad has a number of creative and performing arts-based summer camps for children of all ages. For those who love everything art has to offer, the Art Mania! camp will let kids paint, work on sculpture projects, draw illustrations with pen and ink and develop techniques from professional artists. The camp is for children ages 7 to 12 and runs daily from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. July 30th through August 3rd. The Club Pelican camp is an option for slightly younger audiences who love both science and art. This camp is located at the Batiquitos Lagoon and will take children on hikes led by naturalists. They will be encouraged to gain inspiration from the beauty of nature and use it to create artwork of all kinds. This camp is for children aged 7 to 10 and runs from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. July 23rd through July 27th. For children aged 9 to 12, the camp will run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. July 30th through August 3rd.

The City of Carlsbad also has plenty of options for children who like to express themselves via performance art. Little princesses will enjoy the Enchanted Dancing Princesses camp that takes the vibrant imaginations of its participants to a stage occupied by the likes of the Trolls, Moana, and Frozen. The class is available from July 23rd through July 27th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For kids who want to be hands-on in the creation process, the Fort Making camp has endless possibilities. Team building activities are paired with the engineering of actual forts and fort prototypes. The class runs from August 20th – August 24th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Beyond Dancing Princesses and Fort Building, there are hands-on classes for all sorts of different fantasies. Pirate Adventures, Sparkle, Glitter and Glam, and the Wild Wild West Adventure camps all tap into storytelling and adventure to keep kids actively engaged during camp.

If your little ones need to exert their energies outside, Science & Exploration classes may be the perfect fit. The Jr. Zoo Keeper camp teaches nature lovers about bugs, birds, mammals, and everything in between. Campers get to use what they learn to meet live animal friends. The camp runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. July 30th through August 3rd. For more hardcore nature lovers, there is a Survivalist camp for children aged 6 to 12. Kids learn the basics of food preparation, finding and building shelter, knot tying, and time telling within the confines of nature. This camp runs from August 6th through August 10th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. daily.

In addition to the Arts and Sciences, the warm summer weather is perfect for sports enthusiasts. In order to beat the heat, kids can take part in the City of Carlsbad’s Aquatics Camp. From now until the end of August, the Aquatics Camp is being offered on a daily basis from 8:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. The camp teaches the basic fundamentals of swimming along with offering skill levels of all kinds the ability to participate in competitive games and leisure activities with giant inflatables. For kids who love sports on land, there are All-Star Baseball and Softball camps in addition to Carlsbad Basketball Camps, Coast 2 Coast Soccer and a Junior Golf Clinic to provide valuable skills development, live games, and friendly competition.

These are just a few of the many summer camps the City of Carlsbad has available for kids this summer. If you are interested in learning more about the various options, register here or download a complete catalog of options online.
