As a city who loves furry friends, Carlsbad is thrilled to be launching an exciting new initiative –  “All Paws Lead to Carlsbad.” This pet-friendly program is designed to make travel to Carlsbad with your four-legged friends easier than ever.

When it comes down to it, there is nothing quite like the bond between a pet and their owner. Owning a pet means that you always have a comforting cuddle, a listening ear and unwavering love by your side. Our pets are a beloved part of the family and we want to bring them along on our travels but finding hotels, restaurants and attractions that welcome pets isn’t always easy. That’s why the “All Paws Lead to Carlsbad” initiative is so exciting. The program makes it easy to plan a trip with your pet by bringing together a range of pet-friendly options in one place. From February to May 2023, Carlsbad hotels, restaurants, attractions, shopping centers and retail businesses are rolling out the red carpet for pets and their owners.

Here are some of the tail-wagging activities that will be available at Carlsbad hotels:

Cape Rey Carlsbad

Cape Rey Carlsbad Beach, a Hilton Resort and Spa is a great place to stay if you’re traveling with your furry friend. The resort is hosting fun, pet-friendly activities this spring, including three “Yappy Hours” at Chandler’s Oceanfront Dining on Wednesdays, March 1, April 5 and May 3, 2023. The “Yappy Hours” will include pet-friendly dishes, pup-tails, games and more fun for your furry friends during their Happy Hour for humans too. Walk the Carlsbad coastline, then relax on the Sunset Terrace at Chandler’s to refuel with the resort’s special Puppy Chow menu and doggie treats. During your visit, stop in at The Break – Sun, Surf & Sand Essentials off the lobby to find fur-baby toys and treats.

Omni La Costa Resort & Spa

Relax in luxury with your furry friend with the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa pet package. Enjoy some pup perks with the “Bark and Park” package, which includes complimentary self-parking, a complimentary pet fee (up to two dogs) and a special gift for your canine traveling companions.

pet relaxing at Cassara Carlsbad

You can escape in style with beautiful coastline views at The Cassara Carlsbad. This pet-friendly property is offering a “Pet-cation” package for guests from now until the end of May, which includes a goodie bag consisting of treats, water, toy ball and a roll of scented potty bags.

Pet at Park Hyatt Aviara Resort & Spa

To spoil your pets, the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort & Spa is a great option. The resort is pampering furry friends with complimentary amenities, such as a dog bowl, bed and a stylish Park Hyatt Aviara branded dog bandana. The on-site culinary team has created a special in-room pet menu featuring handcrafted dog treats for pets to indulge in. In addition, Pacific Point, Ponto Lago and Ember & Rye will be serving a special “Bark at the Park” cocktail, with 10% of sales benefiting the San Diego Department of Animal Services in Carlsbad. Moreover, 10% of in-room pet menu sales and 50% of the standard pet fee will be donated to the San Diego Department of Animal Services in Carlsbad.

Hilton Garden Inn Carlsbad Beach

And, if you are in Carlsbad for St. Patrick’s Day, book a room at the newly renovated Hilton Garden Inn Carlsbad Beach for a “Yappy Hour” on Friday, March 17, from 4 pm to 6 pm. Enjoy this special occasion with your pets, where they can indulge in treats, games and fun activities while you enjoy Happy Hour at this beautiful hotel across from the beach.

To add to all the pet-friendly accommodations, the All Paws initiative is also featuring tons of activities for pet parents and their four legged friends. These include wine tastings and a photo contest at Carruth Carlsbad, dog-friendly trails and a costume contest at the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation, SUP yoga classes with treats for dogs and pottery-making workshops where visitors and their pets can create clay keepsake paw prints. The Carlsbad Premium Outlets is setting up two pet photo stations and hosting a Pet Fair featuring an adoption event and microchip clinic. The Forum Carlsbad is offering two $500 gift cards for shopping and dining days with furry friends, while The Shoppes at Carlsbad is hosting a doggie bake sale with proceeds benefiting the San Diego Department of Animal Services. Carlsbad Pet & Feed is hosting a “Splish Splash Spa Day” and Fired Up Ceramics Studio is offering paw print clay impressions.

“Don’t wear white after Labor Day” is one of those weird things that just sticks in your head. Even if you can’t remember when you first heard it, what it means, or if you should even care – it’s one of those sayings that pop into memory at the most random times. Beyond remembering a silly fashion faux paux, this saying is a reminder of a day that hits the calendar at the same time every year. In today’s modern world, there seem to be hundreds of holidays. Keeping them all in line and figuring which ones to observe can be hard. Memorial Day, not unlike Labor Day, is one of the easier ones to remember. It falls on a three-day weekend, and for all intents and purposes is the perfect time to kick off summertime. But, there is much more to remember about Memorial Day than the barbeques that we use to celebrate it.

Memorial Day wasn’t technically celebrated in the U.S. until the late 19th century. The day commemorates exactly what it is named for – honoring those who have fallen in battle. One of the earliest arranged celebrations of fallen soldiers was organized by freed slaves. At the end of the Civil War, thousands of Union soldiers perished as prisoners of war. After the Confederate surrender, recently freed slaves and regiments of the U.S. Colored Troops gathered to provide a proper burial ground for their fellow soldiers. Approximately three years later, the commander-in-chief of the Union veteran’s Grand Army of the Republic issued a decree that designated May 30 as the nationwide day of memorial for the hundreds of thousands of soldiers that lost their lives in the Civil War. It officially became a federal holiday in 1971. Now, Memorial Day continues to honor veterans who have honorably served our country.  As a summer rite of passage and, more importantly, a day to remember – Memorial Day is a day to kick back, relax, and recall all of the sacrifices that those who came before us made.

Here are some ways to celebrate Memorial Day in Carlsbad this year:

Book a Stay at a Carlsbad Resort or Hotel

No matter what time of year you visit, the city of Carlsbad is a prime getaway destination. For Memorial Day, the coastline offers tourists a place to soak in the unique springtime sunsets of the west coast.

One of Carlsbad’s premier resorts, the Westin Carlsbad Resort & Spa recently reopened to locals and travelers. The resort has panoramic ocean views, two signature restaurants, pools, and ample outdoor space. For a limited time, guests can take advantage of a couple of different springtime discounts. Current packages include tickets to the Flower Fields and complimentary bicycles from the resort to get there. Through Memorial Weekend only, guests can hop on and off the Ride the Tide shuttle provided by the Westin. This open air-beach trolley drops guests off at destinations within a five-mile radius of the resort.

Beach Terrace Inn Carlsbad

The Beach Terrace Inn is also running an enticing springtime deal that is perfect for Memorial Day weekend. Their Spring Revival pricing gives guests up to 20% off on various accommodations. These specials are a perfect excuse to shake off the winter chill and honor the holiday with a beach getaway that won’t break the bank.

For a luxury stay at an award-winning resort spa with eight sparkling pools and two championship golf courses – you can also consider booking a stay at the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa. For Memorial Day, guests can cash in on the Escape and Save package for up to 15% off when staying two nights or more.

Host a BBQ and Support Local Carlsbad Businesses

Park 101 Restaturant Lounge Carlsbad

Modern-day Memorial Day festivities usually include good food, good drinks, and friends and family to match. For Memorial Day this year, many restaurants have reopened with takeaway options to support outdoor get-togethers.

If you are hosting a backyard barbeque for Memorial Day, or just want to kick back and enjoy a quiet meal outside – try any one of these options for a tasty summertime meal without the prep work:

– Park 101
– Notorious BBQ
– Felix’s BBQ with Soul
– Burger Lounge
– Pure Burger
– Eureka

Enjoy the Great Outdoors

Alongside booking your stay, BBQs, and bike rides – Carlsbad beaches are a free way to enjoy the long weekend and experience the beauty of the coast.

Carlsbad has over 7 miles of pristine beaches, and each has something new to see. From expansive cliffs and drop-offs to boardwalks and sandy terraces – pack a beach chair and head to South Carlsbad State Beach or Tamarack Surf Beach to soak up the sun this Memorial Day.

Rouleur Brewing Memorial Day Ride

If bicycling is your thing, this year’s Memorial Day Ride is a fun way to pay homage to fallen soldiers and support one of Carlsbad’s local breweries all at the same time.

Pedego Biking on the Beach in Carlsbad

Rouleur Brewery was built on the love of cycling and a foundation of the principles that cycling is founded on. In French, ‘Rouleur’ quite literally translates to ‘having wheels’. They brew their beer with the balance and precision that comes with their name. On Memorial Day, the brewery is hosting its first official ride in over a year. They are offering two options for this year’s ride: gravel and pavement. Coffee will be available in the tasting room starting at 7 a.m. and beer will be available starting at 11 a.m. A food truck will also be onsite for sustenance after the ride.

Holidays are a reminder to celebrate important moments in history. On Memorial Day, use the three-day weekend to remember all of the fallen soldiers that have shaped our past and continue to shape our future.

Spring brings the promise of a new season. Both figuratively and literally, springtime has always been the time of year when the day lengthens, the sun comes out, and soft rains bring on new growth. Every calendar year, spring begins in March. Towards the tail end of the month, the sun crosses over the Earth’s equator. As it traverses north, day and night align, and the sun is here to stay. For farmers, the vernal equinox marks an important milestone. It signals a season of regrowth and fresh life. Every year, the city of Carlsbad welcomes springtime with the grand opening of The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch. Last year, the pandemic stood in the way of getting up close and personal with Carlsbad’s famed ranunculus blooms. But the wait is over. This year, the Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch plan to open with safety measures in place for a springtime that will cue a new beginning.

Carlsbad Flower Fields from overhead

The 2021 season at the Flower Fields started on March 1st. From now until Mother’s Day, guests can visit the 50+ acres of ranunculus blooms in person or take in the views at a safe distance from balconies at the recently reopened Cassara Carlsbad, Tapestry Collection by Hilton.

This year, there are a few adaptations to the norm, but the experience is still world-renowned. A contactless ticketing system has been set up for the safety of staff, volunteers, and visitors. If you would like to attend the Flower Fields in person, you will need to purchase tickets in advance. All tickets must be purchased online in order to reduce crowds at the entrance. No onsite tickets will be sold. Per state guidelines, guests and staff will be required to wear face coverings and maintain social distancing while on the property.

Flower Field favorites like the American Flag of Flowers, Artist Gardens, Orchids, and Historic Poinsettia Display are all on the docket for 2021. Antique Wagon Tours will still be available with a limited capacity. And, there is an exciting new 2-Acre U-Pick Blueberry Patch where guests can pick their own fruit. Visitors can visit the Blueberry Patch on its own or together with a visit to the Flower Fields. The Patch will be open as long as fruit supply is available.

If you prefer to keep a safe distance, a stay at the Cassara Carlsbad offers a perfect spring escape just a stone’s throw away. The property is nestled on 12 lush acres overlooking the Pacific Ocean and sits directly above the seasonal Carlsbad Flower Fields. It is a modern Mediterranean retreat that has undergone a variety of upgrades during the pandemic. The new Karlsbad Suites offer enough space for the whole family. Complete with a king room and parlor, a separate guest room with two twin beds, and three flat-screen televisions – the Karlsbad Suites offer a luxurious escape right in the heart of Carlsbad. Guest rooms have balconies overlooking the acres of ranunculus blooms and spanning all the way to the Pacific Ocean. The Cassara is offering a seasonal package that can turn your next visit to The Flower Fields into an overnight staycation. Stay anytime from March 1st to May 9th and receive two tickets to the Flower Fields. There is a complimentary shuttle to escort you to and from the fields.

Cassara Carlsbad Tapestry by Hilton Lobby

Or, if you’re interested in staying a little closer to the water, you can cruise less than a mile down the road to the sister property at the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa. The Sheraton is a huge dual complex with panoramic ocean views. There is local craft beer and elevated comfort food available at the resort’s on-site open-air restaurant, 7 Mile Kitchen. The resort also has complimentary bike rentals to get you to and from the Flower Fields in little to no time.

Guests of the Cassara Carlsbad or the Sheraton Resort & Spa also have unique access to tap into tee times at the adjacent premier golf course, The Crossings at Carlsbad. The opportunities to explore the outdoors in Carlsbad are endless.

Book a stay at the Cassara or Sheraton today to add some color to your life this spring with the Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch.

2020 has been a year of change. In the new year, we can look back on the first year of the decade with new perspectives, changed daily routines, and appreciation for how we’ve adapted to new norms. At times, the year has felt hectic. Work has changed, home life has changed, socializing has changed, shopping has changed, and eating out has changed. Regardless of these changes and the busyness they have brought with them, one thing we can all agree on is that we’re ready to leave 2020 behind and get a fresh start in 2021. If you’re looking for a place to renew and recharge, Carlsbad has some of the best places in Southern California to book a stay, enjoy the coast, and soak up the beauty that surrounds the city.

Beach Terrace Inn Carlsbad Resort

Established in 1960, the Beach Terrace Inn is a key part of the city’s resort culture. Their on-the-water retreat has survived the test of time. The unique footprint of the beachfront escape is part of what makes the Carlsbad coastline a popular destination for tourists. The Beach Terrace Inn has the Southern California coastal vibes that draw visitors in and make them want to stay. In the ’60s, the hotel was originally built as a set of desirable waterfront apartments. These original apartments are what make the current rooms at the Inn comfortable and relaxing. The guest rooms are large and spaced out with multiple levels and accompanying views. In 1960, the property started with one apartment building. The expansive views and demand for a comfortable waterfront getaway quickly grew. In the 1970s another building was added, followed by a third in the 1980s. This growth and longevity is precisely what is so unique about the hotel. In addition to the spacious rooms, the Inn also has its very own private beach, just steps away from the 7 miles of coastline that Carlsbad calls home.

Another factor that sets the Beach Terrace Inn apart is the family that made it. The Inn is still family-owned and operated and the staff has years of experience under their belts. The same family who understood the magic of Southern California in the 60s are bringing the joy of SoCal to guests today. The art of slow and methodical relaxation is at their core, and the unpretentious ability to experience luxury without pretense are a few things that give this Carlsbad beachfront escape staying power. The Inn acknowledges that the natural beauty of Carlsbad’s coastline can stand on its own. By adding simple amenities like a pool, wifi, free parking, breakfast, and a beach valet – guests at the Inn can enjoy the coastline without distraction.

In an interview featured in Pegasus, Renier Milan, Vice President of TOBO Investments, the parent company that owns Beach Terrace Inn, said:

Beach Terrace Inn Carlsbad Private Beach Access

“We feel very strongly that the regular world ends where our sand begins. We practice a relaxed vibe, which is why I can’t emphasize enough how friendly and helpful our staff is. In fact, we hire based on personality traits and then train the skill.”

The guest rooms at the Beach Terrace Inn offer one of many views. From a Courtyard View to a Horizon View, to an Ocean Front Panoramic View and everything in between – there is something to catch your breath at every turn. Balconies are available in almost every configuration and the cool ocean breeze flows through rooms with ease. With stunning beaches and breathtaking views, the striking cliffs and crashing waves are just steps away from the hotel’s front door. As the only true beachfront hotel in the area, the Beach Terrace Inn has amazing views, shorefront decks, and an outdoor patio that puts you right where you want to be when you need to relax.

Beach Terrace Inn Resort Carlsbad Sunset Views

During a year where everything seems to be changing, the beauty of Southern California sustains. At the Beach Terrace Inn, everyday happiness is ingrained into the service, amenities, and chilled out vibes throughout the hotel. For the winter season, they are serving up beachfront memories with safety in mind. Their Winter Presence Special offers up to 20% off, and if you stay 3 nights, your third night is free.

And, while Beach Terrace Inn remains the only true beachfront hotel in Carlsbad, Best Western Plus Beach View Lodge occupies an incredible location just 70 paces from the beach as well. The Carlsbad, Best Western is owned by the same family as the Beach Terrace Inn. By operating two entirely different hotels, one an independent and the other part of a major brand, the team at Beach Terrace Inn and Carlsbad, Best Western are able to offer beachfront experiences to a wide range of travelers at a variety of different price points.

If you’re looking for a getaway that encapsulates all of the joy that Carlsbad has to offer, the Beach Terrace Inn is the spot to be. Book a room today for a getaway that is bright and breezy – despite how hectic this year has been.

There is never a bad time to vacation in Carlsbad. For the majority of this year, we’ve been restricted to staycations and socially distanced relaxation. Even though the global pandemic doesn’t look to be going anywhere in the near future, there is a lot to look forward to once all of this is over. If anything, this year has taught us that resiliency and hope are two powerful tools to keep us staying afloat. The virus won’t be around forever, and when it’s gone we’ll be able to go to concerts, take trips, and celebrate momentous occasions with a renewed sense of community. If vacationing at the beach is what you’re looking forward to, then Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort has a lot to look forward to in the coming year.

Carlsbad Inn Hotel Pool Area

Almost two years ago, Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort announced that they would be kicking off an expansive list of renovations. The coastal resort has long been a go-to place for laid back vibes and Carlsbad charm. It is located in vibrant downtown Carlsbad and is just steps from the beach. With cool beachy tones and modern furnishings, the accommodations at the resort are clean, fresh, and inviting. Now, the future looks even brighter for the relaxing beachside resort, as Phase 4 of the sitewide renovations are well underway.

Since 2018, Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort has been undergoing a long list of construction projects that have touched almost every part of the property. One of the major ongoing projects has been waterproofing the garage. Since its start, the waterproofing project has gone through many different phases. The resort estimates that the waterproofing will be completely finished by June 2021.

Earlier this summer, Phase 3 of the renovation project successfully added a variety of upgrades to the outdoor space. The pool area was rebuilt and extended on all sides to add almost 50% additional surface space to the swimming area. A fantastic pergola has been added to the surrounding area and a dedicated space for ping pong tables has been added for family-fun competition.

Carlsbad Inn Hotel Ocean View Suite

In total, there is only one phase of the four phase renovation project left. In this fourth phase, the entire central courtyard will be getting a facelift. The firepits and adult Jacuzzi will be overhauled, offering guests a modern and relaxing place to unwind after the sun goes down. The Oak condominium building, North side of the Elm condo building and adjacent patio, and tree area east of the Elm building will be getting expansive exterior enhancements. Lastly, the BBQ area on the north side of the resort will be getting an entire rebuild for an upgraded outdoor dining experience. There will be new grilling equipment and covered spaces for added shade.

There is a lot to look forward to in the coming year for the Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort. In the meantime, Grand Pacific Resorts is deeply committed to the health and wellbeing of its guests during the pandemic. If you can’t wait to get away and need a place to relax during the holidays, the Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort is following Vacation Well policies to ensure an enhanced level of cleaning standards. Stay informed about renovations and start planning your next vacation with peace of mind – the future is promising for 2021.

The Park Hyatt Aviara Resort, Golf Club & Spa is a mainstay in Carlsbad. The resort is a luxurious vacation spot, complete with upscale dining and an award winning golf course. Built in 1997, the Aviara resort is a part of the Park Hyatt hotel chain. The property has long been a beacon of decadence and relaxation for Carlsbad residents. It has received a Forbes Five Star rating and is the recipient of the AAA Five Diamond accolade. The Spanish Colonial architecture that resonates throughout the resort is a nod to Southern California’s rich history. Overlooking the Batiquitos Lagoon and Wildlife Preserve, the coastal retreat has gained critical acclaim. It was voted a top resort spa by Zagat and Conde Nast Traveler and the 18-hole Arnold Palmer-designed golf course has been revered by golf enthusiasts. Golf Digest rated it among the nation’s top 75 golf resorts in 2004. Throughout the years, the Park Hyatt has worked to maintain a standard of coastal luxury. Early last year, the resort announced that it would be investing $50 million dollars to renovate the property. The renovations are scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2020. Here are some highlights that guests can expect this fall.

Coastal Decor

Park Hyatt Aviara Updates

WATG is heading up design for the renovations. The firm is pulling inspiration from the natural beauty surrounding the resort. The redesigned interiors of the lobby, pools, guest rooms, and Golf Club will work to integrate elements of the 200+ species of wildlife and plants that are home to the space. The resort’s color palette is being updated to exude tranquility. The calming colors of the sea and sand will be woven into the decor and elevated by coastal touches and new furnishings.

The upgrades will offer guests a modern Californian vibe that embraces nature in a new contemporary way.

Suites and Guest Rooms

Park Hyatt Aviara Suites in Carlsbad

All 327 of the resort’s guest rooms will be undergoing extensive upgrades. The oversized suites will have residential character that will make guests feel spoiled and at home at the same time. The guest rooms will be reimagined to provide a place for sanctuary and retreat. Upgrades will include the new color pallette, bathroom finishes, and hardwood flooring in the entryways. The furnishings will be refreshed with contemporary coastal pieces that are both chic and comfortable.

Pools and Restaurants

Park Hyatt Aviara Resort in Carlsbad

In order to elevate the natural landscape and coastal vibe, the design firm is also undertaking the aesthetics of the outdoor areas. Both pools will be reimagined to offer relaxing and extravagant outdoor experiences. The new family pool will have water slides and the adult pool will be upgraded with expanded seating options and new cabanas. Both pools will offer extensive views of the surrounding hills.

All of the restaurant and bar options throughout the resort will also undergo major changes. Exterior terraces will be added so that patrons can enjoy Southern California sunsets year round. The dining experiences will be updated as well, giving guests an immersive culinary adventure with each meal. The concepts for each of the restaurants will be announced in the spring of 2020.

Public Areas and Golf Club

The renowned Golf Club and outdoor spaces will go through their own transformations. A grand staircase will be added to the Palm Courtyard. The event lawn will bring opportunities for large weddings, company events, and festivals. Landscaping upgrades throughout the resort will feature panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and rolling hills of the lagoon. The Arnold Palmer Golf Course and Club will receive landscaping advances and facility upgrades.

If you are planning a trip to Carlsbad in the near future, keep the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort, Golf Club & Spa on the top of your list. This year’s renovations will impress guests for years to come.

No matter what type of vacationer you are, or what your interests are, Carlsbad has accommodations for all types of travelers. If you want an action-packed getaway, a budget-friendly staycation, or an escape to a coastal retreat, you can do it all in Carlsbad.

Vacationing in Carlsbad is sure to include at least one of the following things: the beach, a stay in a world-renowned hotel or resort, LEGOLAND, the Flower Fields, or the Carlsbad Village. Granted, there are a million other places to visit when you come, but these are the places that consistently rank as tourists’ favorites (and for good reason). The Tapestry Collection by Hilton understands that when you come to explore a new city, convenience is everything. This year, they are opening a brand-new hotel in Carlsbad that will put tourists right in the center of the city’s most desirable destinations. The new Cassara Carlsbad is opening right in the heart of the famous Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch. The hotel is an exciting new addition to Carlsbad’s family of resorts and will be one of the best hotel options available when booking a trip to our city.

An Unbeatable Location Within Carlsbad Flower Fields

Cassara Carlsbad within Carlsbad Flower Fields

The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch have been around for almost a hundred years. The fields are the culmination of over 85 years of floral cultivation that began in the 1920’s. The ranunculus flowers are native to Asia Minor and are akin to the buttercup flower. They now come in thirteen unique colors. The Flower Fields boast over 50 acres of the giant tecolote ranunculus. They bloom from March to May and the annual burst of color is truly a sight to behold. The preservation and promotion of the fields have made them a unique and memorable part of Carlsbad culture. Today, the Flower Fields also feature the American Flag of Flowers, antique tractor wagon rides, artist gardens, a cymbidium orchid greenhouse, historic poinsettia display, sweet pea maze and much, much more.

Starting this year, tourists will be able to enjoy the Flower Fields front and center when staying at the brand new Cassara Carlsbad. The Cassara Carlsbad is located in the heart of the Carlsbad Flower Fields. The lobby complements the beauty of the fields with a stunning and elegant color scheme and the Cassara’s distinctive logo embodies the beautiful, colorful rows of blossoming ranunculus. The hotel uses the flower’s shape throughout the hotel, creating iconic Mediterranean shapes that originated in century old Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian architecture.

Federal holidays are a welcome reprieve from our day-to-day work routines. Different industries honor different holidays, but Labor Day is one federal holiday that is celebrated by workers all over the country. It is celebrated on the first Monday in September, and gives families a long weekend to soak up the last few days of summer. Labor Day was created to honor the American labor movement and is a way to show thanks to the millions of hard-working laborers who go to work everyday and contribute to the prosperity of our country. In the late 19th century, trade unions and labor movements began to grow. The notion that laborers should be celebrated resonated with lawmakers and by the time it became a federal holiday in 1894, thirty states had already jumped on board with unionists. Today, Labor Day is the unofficial end of summer and a day off to enjoy picnics, boat rides, and time in the sun with friends and family. If you haven’t made plans yet this Labor Day, consider booking your stay at one of these three locations for a relaxing holiday getaway in Carlsbad.

Carlsbad is an old coastal village that dates back to the early 1800s. The fresh water creeks located throughout the city provided sustainable resources for native villages. Carlsbad’s water has played a huge part in the town’s history, luring tourists and providing refreshment and healing to train travelers starting as early as 1880. In addition to the natural attractions, the city of Carlsbad has a number of historic landmarks that offer glimpses into our city’s past. The Frazier’s Mineral Well, Twin Inns, Village, and Old Santa Fe Depot are all snapshots of the city’s history. Over the years, Carlsbad’s infrastructure has gradually transformed from an ‘old coastal village’ to a contemporary beach town with modern attractions and luxury resorts. However, the history that made it what it is today is still very present. Many of the modern updates to the town can be seen in the various resorts scattered along the coast. Carlsbad by the Sea Hotel is in the midst of some of these very renovations, taking the historic charm of the resort and transforming it into a true gem of modern luxury.

Renovations at the hotel are well under way to give it a well-deserved face lift. The exterior boasts a new coat of paint on all of the buildings. The new color scheme is fresh and inviting, pairing seamlessly with the Danish-style Windmill landmark. The pool has been completely refurbished with new decking and fencing, and all of the pool furniture has been updated. The hotel’s HVACs and Wi-Fi have been upgraded for efficiency and is expected to complete renovations to the property’s meeting rooms by the end of the summer. The new meeting rooms will feature bright and open design schemes. Further down the line, the lobby will undergo a complete remodel that will introduce modern technology for a quick and inviting check-in.

In addition to the upgrades taking place at Carlsbad by the Sea Hotel, the iconic Windmill itself is undergoing a massive renovation as well. Construction crews are hard at work updating the foundation of the Windmill to transform it into an enormous Food Hall. The restoration project will breathe new life into the historic landmark and will host some of North County’s best culinary experiences. The Food Hall is tentatively scheduled to open in mid-April.
