February 4, 2021 by vc-admin Area information, Golf 0 comments

Golf is a sport that is played by millions of people on thousands of courses in hundreds of countries worldwide. For players, golf is a fun and challenging activity that appeals to people of all ages. Surprisingly to some, golf is a very physical sport that has tons of health benefits. While it isn’t high impact like some other cardiac based sports, a golfer walks over 12,000 steps per 18-hole round. Playing golf regularly can improve your physical state, physique, and psyche. The walking, swinging, and lifting involved in golf can result in an increased heart rate and blood flow, improvements in balance, and brain stimulation. Spending time surrounded by nature while exercising can improve mental wellbeing and reduce anxiety. There is even a social element to the game that encourages new connections and can strengthen existing bonds. With all of these benefits, golf is certainly a great way to escape to the outdoors and have fun – all while getting exercise.

If you are new to the sport of golf or a seasoned pro, Carlsbad is home to some of the most well-known golf courses in California. Check out one of these courses this winter to experience some of the best that golf has to offer.

Park Hyatt Aviara Golf Club

The Park Hyatt Aviara is San Diego’s only golf course designed by Arnold Palmer. The coastal layout is beautiful and expansive – spanning over 7,000 yards with a variety of bunker and water challenges. The course is home to a Pro shop, driving range, and putting green with a Spanish Colonial clubhouse and award winning steakhouse with outdoor seating.

Every year, the Park Hyatt Aviara Golf Club is home to the LPGA Kia Classic. Overlooking the Batiquitos Lagoon nature preserve, this course hosts some of golf’s most talented players. It is a par 72 over 18 holes that has been named by Golf Digest and Golf Magazine as one of the best resort golf courses in America.

Omni La Costa Golf Course

Carlsbad golf resort

The Omni La Costa Golf Course has been home to golf professionals since the early 60’s. The original 72-par, 7,200 yard course covered 215 acres and was selected early on to host the CBS Golf Classic. Golf greats like Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Bobby Nichols have competed here. From 1969 through 1998, the course hosted The Tournament of Champions. From Phil Mickelson to Tiger Woods, the Omni La Costa Golf Course has seen a variety of stars pass through its doors over the years.

In 2011, the Omni La Costa Golf Course underwent a $10 million dollar, 10-month renovation to both the Champions and Legends courses. Updates to the fairways, elevation, and grassways have maintained the Omni La Costa as one of the best places to play golf in the country. With rolling hills and meandering wetlands, the La Costa course is one-of-a-kind.

The Crossings Golf Course

Carlsbad Crossing Golf

The golf course at the Crossings at Carlsbad is a premier destination surrounded by stunning ocean views. Designed by Greg Nash, a nationally recognized designer and architect, the 18-hole championship course has a varied terrain to challenge golfers of all skill levels. It is filled with local wildlife and stretches for over 400 acres of coastal terrain.

The Crossings was named for the series of five bridges that were constructed to meet topographic conditions. The Crossings Golf Course is a picturesque landscape that offers generous fairways and large greens to golfers of all skill sets.

Rancho Carlsbad Golf Club

Crossings Carlsbad Golfing

In the hills just north of El Camino Real and College Blvd, Rancho Carlsbad Golf Club is a 18 hole Par 3 course. The challenging course allows golfers to work on their short game. Players can finish an entire round in as quickly as 3 hours. There is a driving range at the north end of the course that features natural grass to hit off of. The entire property is nestled among hundreds of trees lining the fairways.

For a place to practice your swing or perfect your game, Rancho Carlsbad Golf Club is a great option.

If you’re wanting to get outdoors this winter and are interested in an activity that can improve your physical fitness and mental wellbeing, reserve a tee time at one of Carlsbad’s top-notch golf courses.
