Traditions can mold a neighborhood and provide valuable things to look forward to as each new year approaches. Carlsbad is a city full of tradition and history, making it a picturesque getaway that is rich with traditions formed by its community. The Carlsbad Santa Fe Depot, Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park, and Frazier’s Well are three examples of historic landmarks in the city that are actively preserving cultural values from the Pre-Columbian period to the Spanish and Mexican Period, Early American Period, and beyond. A large portion of Carlsbad’s local traditions and heritage can be seen through the lens of arts and history represented throughout. Creativity builds connections within the community and public art transforms the aesthetic of public places. This month, Carlsbad residents and visitors can take part in the formation of a new artistic tradition by attending the fourth installation of the Art Rhythm & Wine Festival, hosted by The Forum Carlsbad. While there are plenty of fall festivities to take part in as Halloween approaches, the Art Rhythm & Wine Festival is a fun and inspiring community event that you won’t want to miss.
The festival will be on October 20th and 21st at The Forum Carlsbad. The two-day event will feature artwork from over 50 artists. The artwork will be original and come sourced from all over the western United States. A variety of art styles will be represented. Everything from contemporary pieces to more traditional Southwest art will be on display. Craftsmen and women will be utilizing an array of media to create everything from dishware to jewelry for purchase. Acrylic, photography, mixed media, and watercolors will fill the booths for guests to enjoy.
In addition to visual art, music and culinary crafts will be on hand as well. A wine garden will allow guests to try quality local and national tastings as well as the opportunity to purchase bottles for home. Wine sample cards will be available for $10 and will allow guests five 1 oz. pours. Wine can also be purchased in 4 oz. quantities for $5 each. Food artisans will be showcasing their work and providing tasty pairings for the wine. Live music will be on rotation for the duration of the festival, offering a playful backdrop for the art that is on display.
The festival will be sponsored by Pacific Ridge Schools and Ranch & Coast Magazine. The Art Forum is also partnering with two 501cs non-profit organizations to host a silent auction during the festival. Each non-profit, the Lux Art Institute and North County Arts Network, will have booths at the event to provide information on their missions while supporting the cause of spreading the arts throughout the community.
Grab the family and reserve your spot at the Art Rhythm and Wine Festival this year. By attending, you can help mold a tradition rooted in culture, history, and innovation. Enjoy everything from glasswork to metal sculpture, printmaking, woodwork, and digital artwork while interacting with your community, drinking fine wine, and eating good food.
