Earth Day is one-of-a-kind. It’s where we get to celebrate our beautiful planet and take action to protect it for generations to come. The global movement that started in 1970 now inspires people to reflect and take steps to reduce our carbon footprint, conserve natural resources and promote sustainable living.
If you’re in Carlsbad during Earth Day, you’re in for a treat! There are so many great Earth Day events happening, and you won’t want to miss out on any of them.
To start with, mark your calendars for Saturday, April 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. because the bi-annual Makers Market is back for its seventh year. This event is the perfect blend of creativity, community and good vibes. It has a new location in downtown Carlsbad on Carlsbad Village Drive and Roosevelt Street, making it a great spot to stop for brunch or a lunch date. If you visit the Maker’s Market this year, get ready to browse and shop handmade, vintage, up-cycled and unique goods from southern Californian artisans.
This year, the Makers Market is showcasing eco-friendly makers who are dedicated to promoting and encouraging eco-responsible practices, from upcycling to sustainable packaging and zero-plastic packaging. By visiting their booths and indulging in their eco-friendly products, you’ll be doing your part to support sustainable agriculture and farming.
In addition to the Makers Market, Carlsbad Village Clean-Ups are an initiative that prioritizes the purposes of Earth Day all year round. Village cleanups engage the community as well as partner organizations like Pure Project and Handel’s Ice Cream. Over 1,000 pounds of trash were collected in 2022, and the goal is to continue the effort to keep Carlsbad Village litter-free. In 2023, cleanups will continue bi-monthly, and efforts will focus on collecting one of the city’s biggest litter problems – cigarette butts.
On Earth Day, the group will be leading a designated I Love A Clean San Diego cleanup site for an opportunity to reach into the far ends of the Village. This cleanup will be one of two larger community cleanups happening in 2023 in partnership with the Richness of Giving. This cleanup, Creek to Bay, will be hosted by Engel & Volkers. Guests can join together with thousands of volunteers countywide to clean-up litter.
Finally, starting at 12 p.m., the Carlsbad Music Festival will be hosting its Spring Eclectic Lawn at St. Michael’s by-the-Sea featuring local award-winning artist Shane Hall. Click here for more information about the Festival and to purchase your tickets. You can make a day of it by helping keep the city clean and enjoying the beautiful sights and sounds of Carlsbad Village!
As Saturday, April 22 gets closer, it’s important to remember all of the things that make Earth Day special. By recognizing the simple joys that come with being connected to the earth and the importance of preserving it, we can join together to honor and protect our planet. Make a difference by supporting eco-conscious artisans, cleaning up our beautiful Village or enjoying the festivities. This year there are plenty of ways to make Carlsbad a greener and more vibrant community for all to enjoy!
