Southern California’s year round sunshine can often fool our senses. Regardless of the bright and sunny skies, trick-or-treat costumes and autumn decor are taking over the seasonal aisles of our favorite department stores. Pumpkin spice lattes are front and center letting everyone know that fall has, in fact, arrived. Luckily, Carlsbad features some of North County’s best festivities to kick off the season.
Whether you’re still in that summer state of mind or embracing the relief from the heat that fall brings, the Pumpkin Plunge is an event that will appeal to everyone.
Held at the Alga Norte Aquatic Center, the pool is uniquely transformed into an obstacle course of frightful fun. Kids can navigate floating obstacles, lasso a pumpkin from the floating pumpkin patch, cheer on their favorite creepy crawlers in the Creepy Animal races, and participate in a multitude of Halloween themed games.
For those who would prefer to keep dry and soak in the change of seasons, a pumpkin themed bounce house, photo ops for the family, and Floating Pumpkin Patch will provide the ambience of fall. As sunny skies transition to dusk, guests of all ages will be able to take advantage of Carlsbad’s beautiful weather by catching a movie under the stars.
Be sure to to swing by the Aquatics Center soon to get your wristbands – space is limited and you won’t want to miss your chance to join the fun!

Right down the road, there’s another classic fall transition taking place. The bright red strawberry fields at the Carlsbad Strawberry Company have turned to harvest oranges and browns at its famous annual Pumpkin Patch.
There is no shortage of activities available for all age groups at the patch. Whether you are looking to find the biggest pumpkin North County has to offer or find an amazing backdrop for a family picture, the Strawberry Company’s Pumpkin Patch features that much and more.
For families at home during the week, shake it up by letting the little ones run free to look for the perfect jack-o’-lantern to carve and paint. On the weekends, there is even more fun for families, friends, and couples. Pony rides, tractor rides, a local market, face painting, and food vendors offer a full roster of things to enjoy. For more adventurous guests, the corn maze has both day and night options. It is twice the size as last year so bring your flashlights and sense of direction if you have the wits to navigate through the labyrinth of dead ends that will leave you mazed and confused.
